Clomid Side Effects: Coping with Common Clomid Side Effects
Clomid side effects are mild for most people. Although Clomid is usually well tolerated, like any medicine, you should be aware of possible side effects before starting treatment. Here is a list of the most common side effects of Clomid. If you have any side effects not listed here, or if your side effects are particularly severe, you should consult your doctor.
Twins and multiple pregnancy
Risk of getting pregnant with twins or more may be best known side effect of Clomid. During clinical trials Clomid, 6,9% of pregnancies were twin pregnancies, 0.5% were triplets, 0.3% had four, and 0.1% had quintuplets. To reduce the chances of having twins while taking Clomid, a doctor should always start you at the lowest dose first, 50 mg, before trying higher doses.
Tides
Hot flashes (or, in the official "the doctor says," vasomotor flushes) are a common side effect of Clomid, with 10% of women experience them, according to clinical studies. If you have hot flashes, you may suddenly feel very warm, the experience of face flush, break out in sweat, and a rapid heartbeat. After a hot flash, you may feel chilled (especially if you broke a sweat). Hot flashes, also known as night sweats, if they occur while you sleep. Hot flash can be a little unnerving the first time it happens, but it's not a dangerous event - just uncomfortable one.
Bloating and abdominal discomfort
Another very common side effect of Clomid, bloating and abdominal discomfort occurs in about 5% of women with Clomid. During treatment, it may help to wear clothes that are not too tight around the waist. Bloated feeling should pass once your treatment cycle. Of course, if you are experiencing more moderate discomfort and cramping, call your doctor.
Weight gain
Weight gain is not as common as abdominal distention, with less than 1% of women reporting changes in weight while taking Clomid. But a side effect that you hear often through infertility vine. If weight gain is associated with bloating, then your weight should be back to normal after treatment.
Mood swings
Mood is another side effect of Clomid, which in clinical trials is not as often as I myself (less than 1% of women). But it's hard to believe, given how many women have told me the mood swings were the worst side effect of taking Clomid. Mood swings can mean feeling more emotionally sensitive, tears, or even depression or anxiety, although infertility itself may cause these feelings without drugs. It helps to be forgiving and gentle with yourself and practice good self-care during treatment cycles.
Nausea and dizziness
About 2% of women experience nausea and vomiting while taking Clomid. This is another side effect, which can be lessened by taking the medication in the evening. If nausea, intense, or if you have trouble keeping down food and fluids, be sure to inform your doctor. Severe nausea may also be a sign of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, the rare but potentially dangerous side effects of fertility drugs.
Headaches
Slightly more than 1% of women in clinical trials reported headaches as a side effect of Clomid. If you are having headaches, it can help to take medication in the evening and morning, so you can sleep through them. (If your doctor has told you specifically to take medication in the morning, you should ask first.) You should also be sure to get plenty of fluids, as mild dehydration can also lead to headaches.
Abnormal menstrual bleeding
Slightly more than 1% of women in clinical trials have reported spotting, or abnormal menstrual bleeding as a side effect of Clomid. This may lead some women are crazy because they see a spot and think: "Oh, it's implantation spotting! But especially if you are taking fertility drugs, bleeding in the middle of the menstrual cycle can only be associated with drugs and do not necessarily indicate pregnancy. If the spotting is accompanied by other symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, or fever - or something just does not feel right - see a doctor.
Chest
The breast is another potential side effect of Clomid, occurring in 2% of women in clinical trials. This is another side effect that may have women wondering if they experience early symptoms of pregnancy, but usually it's just an effect of the drug side.
Vaginal dryness or thick cervical mucus
This frustrates the potential side effects of Clomid, how thick or absence of cervical fluid may prevent the achievement of pregnancy. Cervical mucus needed to help transport the sperm into the cervix. If Clomid causes thick mucus of the cervix, it can reduce the chances of getting pregnant. You should let your doctor if this occurs during treatment. He may consider Clomid is the right product for you, or find a way to treat or avoid the problem (eg in the treatment of IUI).
Blurred Vision
Scary, but usually not dangerous side effect of Clomid is blurred vision, occurring in 1.5% of women in clinical trials. The good news is that this side effect is usually temporary and goes away as soon as you stop taking the drug. Blurred vision, seeing flashing lights, and seeing floating can occur when taking Clomid, especially at higher doses. If you experience vision changes, be sure to consult a doctor. Symptoms should go away once treatment is stopped. (And, obviously, you should take care driving or operating dangerous machinery if you experience visual side effects.)
Ovarian cyst
Less than 1% of women will develop ovarian cysts during treatment with Clomid. A cyst is usually benign (not cancer), and it should go on its own not long after the treatment cycle. If the cyst does not go away, the physician should monitor and reassess.
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS)
Rare, but potentially dangerous side effects of Clomid is ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Although more common with strong fertility drugs, the rate of OHSS in women taking Clomid is less than 1%.
